What's in it?

"What's in it?" The name says it all.

This voluntary ACCORD initiative provides consumers with information on the ingredients in household products. The following categories of products are included: air care products, automotive cleaners, household cleaners, household floor maintenance products and laundry products.

Ingredient disclosure will help Australian consumers make more informed choices about the products they use in their households.

Ingredients will be listed on product labels, on corporate/brand websites, or be made available by other means e.g. via a toll-free phone number. Ingredients will be listed in descending order of concentration in the product, in much the same way as for foods and cosmetics.

This initiative is based on the Canadian & US scheme which was launched on 1 January 2010. However "What's in it?" has been tailored specifically for the Australian context.

"What's in it?" complements Australian's strong system of product ingredient safety regulation: household cleaning products on the Australian market are regulated for safety via a number of independent, expert Australian government regulatory regimes.
